Q: Is Yoga a religion?
Yoga is a practice for self development and self awareness. Some of us find this a 'spiritual' experience. In any case Yoga feels good and is a healthful experience. Physical Yoga was traditionally taught in preparation for more esoteric studies as it was believed that personal growth should be founded in physical and emotional good health. We do have some classes that more spiritually focused than others.
Q: What is Kripalu Yoga?
Yoga is a sanskrit word meaning union. It offers us a chance to reconnect with the subtle expressions of our body, mind and emotions. Thousands of years ago, the yogis developed yoga postures by observing the movements of animals in the wild. Each posture provides its own unique benefits as it builds grace and self confidence. Kripalu hatha yoga uses a heart-centered approach. After introducing the details of proper alignment, the focus becomes our inner experience. Kripalu hatha yoga builds flexibility and strength at the same time as it cultivates self awareness and compassion.
